Home Reading Bags

Today our home reading and home work bags went home for the first time. The purpose of our home work is to build strong work habits in preparation for grade one, to reinforce skills learned in class and to provide some extra practice with our letter and sound knowledge. The Kinders are very excited, they feel like 'big kids' now that they have their own home work bags.

These bags will be sent home every Monday with a new book and some letter and phonological practice for students to do. Please return the bags with their books on Thursday.  Please spend about 10 min on these jobs each night until they are completed. There is no need to spend lots of time on this.

We worked on the letter Aa last week in order to create a sample for parents so that you can see how we do this work. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email.

Drumming in Music

The Story of Guck the Duck

This week I shared the story of Guck the Duck with the class. They loved it so much that they asked me to tell it at least three times each day. This morning we made a video so they can listen to it whenever they want. Enjoy!

Puzzles

We worked as a team to solve this puzzle. We looked for straight edges for the border, looked for patterns to help us, and turned pieces to figure out where they fit. It was lots of fun!

This was a great opportunity to develop problem-solving skills, cooperation and spatial awareness. Puzzles are a popular activity during play centres.

Representing Numbers to Ten

This week during discovery centres we are practicing our counting and representing numbers in different ways. Here we see that students have represented the number 6 in 7 different ways!
